Los Cabos, Mexico is known for its prestigious golf courses & we’re here to share more about one of our favorite public golf courses which is Solmar Golf Links! We love golf in Cabo San Lucas for destination wedding & bachelor party groups, as well as for couples on their honeymoon or anniversary trip. Cabo’s saying is “no bad days” & Solmar Golf Links’ saying is “how many times can you say wow” & these sayings definitely summed up our day golfing! SOLMAR GOLF LINKS
"Sol," Spanish for sun, & "Mar," Spanish for sea, form Solmar - the company name behind the development of the golf course & resort community. Solmar Golf Links is a Greg Norman-designed, all-inclusive golf course located along the Pacific Coast of Cabo. The links are designed around Cabo’s desert terrain, creating a versatile, strategic layout with ocean views from every hole! The course takes you through windswept dunes at the start, climbs through a thick cactus forest crossed by arroyos, & returns to the beach & sea on the back nine.
To start our day, we booked private transportation with Solmar Golf Links which is an amazing benefit that can be added to your tee time! Renting a car & driving around Cabo is not for everyone, so having a comfortable & safe ride to the course was super convenient. Our driver Angel even had a cooler full of beers & water for us! Private transportation is definitely a great start to your golf day!
The drive is about 20 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas & once you arrive, you enter Solmar Golf Links’ beautiful ranchero-style clubhouse, which overlooks the fairways & sea. There is an amazing pro-shop & the first of many all-inclusive comfort stations, too!
After grabbing snacks & cocktails at the welcome comfort station, we were off to our tee time! The golf clubs we rented were loaded up in our golf carts, along with golf balls, tees, a cooler, speakers, & a GPS system! Amazing service from the start & then we were off to take some practice swings at the driving range!
All of the holes were beautiful with amazing ocean views! We were definitely impressed & had to stop for many photo ops 😊 The only downside about golfing along the Pacific Ocean in Cabo is that it is very windy, which can make golf challenging. It can also get quite cold for Cabo so make sure you bring layers of clothing & your sunscreen since it’s almost always sunny in Cabo even if it feels a little chilly!
Richie is the golfer, & while I golf from time to time, I love going as a ride along in Cabo since there are many golf courses, like Solmar Golf Links, that have all-inclusive comfort stations! This course has a welcome comfort station as well as 2 comfort stations that are accessible twice throughout your round of golf. The comfort stations offer complimentary Mexican fare & refreshments, which make golfing (& riding along) that much more enjoyable! Also, especially as a lady, the comfort stations have beautiful bathrooms which is such an added bonus. Comfort station #1 is located at holes 6 & 8 and comfort station #2 is located at holes 14 & 17. We like how the comfort stations are spaced closely together since grabbing beers, shots, & alcoholic beverages did not disappoint! The food offerings were so-so & felt a little rushed with grab & go options compared to other courses we’ve golfed in Cabo, but you can’t complain about all-inclusive golf!!!
It’s also fitting that Solmar Golf Links’ logo is a breaching humpback whale, since it is a common occurrence to see whales in Cabo from mid-December through April, & we were lucky enough to see whales while golfing!!!
Another amazing thing about Solmar Golf Links is that they have the only island hole in Cabo! This is super unique, fun, & challenging for golfers! Island hole #17 is also extremely beautiful, too!
Andrew Gilchrist, director of golf at Solmar Golf Links, is a native Scotsman who knows his way around seaside courses, & sums up the course perfectly: "You've got the dunes here, the sandy soil and the ocean breeze. You've got fairways that blend into the natural vegetation. You've got flat-faced, revetted bunkers-the only ones in Mexico & you've got Seadwarf paspalum turf, which encourages run-up ground game shots. We call this a links-inspired golf course, but in truth, it plays a lot like an authentic links."
Solmar Golf Links is also the first facility in Los Cabos to be designated a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International. The club's environmental initiatives include preserving native acreage, enhancing wildlife habitat, reducing irrigated areas to conserve water, & other eco-friendly actions. You know we love Cabo so it is amazing to know how Solmar Golf Links is helping to keep Cabo beautiful!
