At first, I didn’t want to say our own vows since I thought I would be too emotional, but I’m so glad Richie persuaded me to write our own. I also thought I would be a little nervous saying my vows in front of people, but the people you are saying them in front of are your friends & family so that is just a silly thought to have!

A common wedding regret we hear from brides & grooms after they get married is that they did NOT write their own vows, so keep that in mind before you count out writing your own vows altogether.

White floral dresses paired with beige wedges makes the perfect look for a bride to be to wear for a pre-wedding events like a couples wedding shower and/or bridal shower, engagement party and/or engagement photos, destination wedding welcome dinner, rehearsal dinner, or post-wedding day brunch!

When it comes to writing your wedding vows, Rich & Kitch's best advice is to have them be sentimental & meaningful, while keeping them funny & lighthearted, too! Here are some key points to touch on in your wedding vows:

  • Reasons you love each other.

  • Something funny/lighthearted that people probably know about you (telling an inside joke might resonate with the two of you, but not everyone else).

  • Make your promises for what you vow your marriage to be about.

  • Your wedding vows should reflect your personality, so do what works for you!

Now that you know the main things to include in your wedding vows, here are some tips for actually writing them:

  • Outline your ideas. We recommend typing them out & saving them in a safe place so you can easily make edits!

  • Don’t feel like you have to include everything you want to say; you are getting married so you know you love each other, even if you don’t say it all in your vows.

  • Keep your wedding vows short & sweet so they are memorable & not boring for your guests! Our vows were no longer than one minute each.

  • Don’t wait until the last minute to write them! Your wedding day will be hectic, so don’t try to wake up the morning of your wedding to get them done.

  • Reference ideas from other people’s wedding vows (like ours below 😉)

  • Get inspired by your favorite songs, quotes, books, etc.

Once you’ve finalized your wedding vows, it’s time to get them wedding day-ready! So we recommend:

  • Writing them in a cute wedding vow book (these are the ones we used). Even if you memorize your wedding vows, you might get more nervous than you think on the day of the wedding, so keep them handy! You don’t want to forget all the important things you want to say!

  • Practice reading your vows out loud before the big day! Time yourself & make sure the way you are saying your vows is how you want them to sound (especially if you get nervous speaking in front of people).

  • Keep your wedding vows a secret unless you think you’ll be too emotional. If that is the case, then talk to your partner about reading them beforehand so you know what to expect (we did this!)

Kelsey's Vows

Richie, thank you for being the best teammate & accepting me for all that I am. I know I can always count on you to go to the gym with me every morning, and I’m thankful to always have your help executing the weekly meal plan. I promise to be patient with you even when you are driving me crazy with your endless energy because that quality of lighting up any situation is one of the many things I love about you. I also love your loyalty, thoughtfulness, and how much you care for others. Today, I promise to always support you, be loyal to you, and show you the same care for the rest of my life. I have loved you for the past 7 years & will continue to love you, through our greatest moments & unpredictable struggles.
