As you are preparing for your wedding planning trip, bachelor or bachelorette party, destination wedding, honeymoon, or anniversary trip to Los Cabos, Mexico, is your phone loaded up with the top travel apps you need for traveling? Rich & Kitch are here to share our must-have travel apps so you’re prepared for your Cabo San Lucas/San José del Cabo vacation!
As we get closer to the departure date for our trips to Los Cabos, we look at our phones & make sure our mobile apps are ready to use when traveling to & arriving in Mexico. Here is a list of Rich & Kitch’s favorite travel apps we use before traveling to Cabo, cell phone apps we use while we’re vacationing in Mexico, & mobile apps we use when traveling back to the states!
BEFORE TRAVELING TO CABO
APPS FOR FLIGHTS
When it comes to booking our flights to Cabo, we like to check flight prices using the Hopper app & www.google.com/flights. If you like to fly Southwest, like we do from time to time, you will need to check prices on their website separately. Since we have a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card, we usually end up booking our flights through our Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, with or without points.
Regardless of whatever airline you end up flying on (Delta, United, American, etc.) make sure you have their app downloaded to your phone so you can easily access your boarding pass & use their app for any in-flight features if they have them!
AIRPORT LOUNGE APPS
If you are a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder like we are, you get access to airport lounges via the Priority Pass app! However, you can purchase Priority Pass access without a travel credit card, too! We are the type of people who get to the airport early if there is a lounge to check out lol. We love airport lounge access to use during a long layover on a connecting flight, too! FYI - the Los Cabos airport has THE BEST airport lounge!
Many other travel credit cards provide access to their specific lounge, but we currently love the flexibility to fly different airlines, so the Chase Sapphire Reserve card works best for us. We highly recommend that you have some sort of travel credit card, but if not, you can also look into getting airport lounge access using an app like Lounge Buddy.
APPS TO USE WHILE IN MEXICO
When you are in Mexico, we highly recommend you have the following apps on your phone. We use these daily every time we’re in Cabo!
Google Translate
While we are still trying to learn Spanish by playing Duolingo everyday, & most people in Cabo speak English, there are times when Google Translate comes in handy. You can easily type what you want to say into the app, then show your phone screen with the translated version to the person you are trying to communicate with!
Google Maps
If you need to use a map on your phone, use Google Maps. It is way more reliable than Apple Maps in Cabo!
I honestly suck at doing math in my head so converting pesos to dollars in this app is a lifesaver for me!
Our cheapest Uber ride we’ve had in Cabo was less than $2 (which is criminal) so make sure to leave a cash tip - they deserve it! Most Uber drivers only speak Spanish, so the Google Translate app will come in handy for you here if you don’t speak any Spanish. Also, it is usually easy to get taxis if you are staying at a resort or looking for a way to get back from downtown, but when we’ve stayed at an Airbnb, using Uber was super helpful.
If you need to communicate with people while you’re in Cabo, everyone loves using WhatsApp!
APPS FOR TRAVELING HOME
When you come back to the states to clear customs, see if your port of entry accepts Mobile Passport Control. You can fill out your passport information in the app when you land, and when you get to customs they should have a separate line for Mobile Passport holders. This lets you skip the longer line & get through customs more quickly!
READY TO TAKE FLIGHT?!

THE RICH & KITCH PACKING LIST
As part of our Wedding Planning Playbook, we give our engaged couples a checklist template to use when packing for their destination wedding & honeymoon. It breaks things down by wedding day & emergency kit items, as well as what to pack in your checked bag vs. your carry-on bag. We even include the exact packing list we used for our destination wedding & mini-honeymoon in Cabo! If you want access to the Rich & Kitch Travel Packing List, along with this lesson from our Wedding Planning Playbook, it can be purchased here! We know it will be super helpful for you to have as you are crossing off everything you need before leaving for your vacation, so we made it super affordable!
The Rich & Kitch Travel Packing List can be used as your honeymoon packing list, & it doubles as a final wedding checklist since we had a destination wedding. However, this list is helpful even if you aren’t having a destination wedding, since you’ll likely be bringing everything you need to your venue to get ready on your wedding day.
