Dreaming of traveling to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for your destination wedding, luxury honeymoon, anniversary trip, bachelor/bachelorette party, or any other special occasion?! Rich & Kitch are here to help! As luxury FORA travel advisors & part-time residents of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, we’ve been to Los Cabos every month of the year, so we’re here to share which months are best to plan your vacation to Cabo!
BEST MONTHS IN CABO
In Cabo, the busy season is from November to April & off season is from May to October. Overall, here are the Rich & Kitch rankings for the best months to visit Los Cabos, Mexico:
Cabo is a desert climate, so you can expect sunshine almost every day of the year. Cabo’s reliable & consistent weather is one of the many reasons why Rich & Kitch LOVE Cabo! For reference, here is a helpful chart from Google that includes the average monthly temperatures in Los Cabos, Mexico. From our experience, San José del Cabo is slightly warmer than Cabo San Lucas because it’s not as windy. If you are on the Pacific Ocean side of Cabo, it will be slightly cooler than the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo because it is more windy along the Pacific Ocean.
Some months are better to visit Los Cabos than others, so keep reading to find out the reasons behind our rankings!
JANUARY
If you live somewhere cold & you are looking to escape to a warmer place during the winter, then visiting Cabo in January will not disappoint. January is still “wintery” for Los Cabos, but being from the Midwest, we can’t complain. The sun is not as strong during the day, but you can expect temperatures in the 70s which is perfect weather in our book. In the evenings, it can get a bit cool with temperatures in the 50s-60s. The closer you get to the end of the month, the temperatures continue to get warmer. January is a peak season month because of the New Year's holiday & it is whale season (which is December - April). Over the years, we’ve spent the entire month of January in Cabo & our only complaint is that the sun sets around 5:30pm so there are fewer hours to enjoy the Cabo sunshine. But if that is our only complaint about winter in Cabo, then it’s really not a complaint at all! January is also a special month for us because that is the month we got engaged in Cabo. You can read all about our proposal here!
FEBRUARY
February is another amazing month to visit Los Cabos. The weather is great & whale season is amazing! If you’re thinking about a long weekend getaway for Valentine’s Day, love is in the air in Los Cabos, so this is your sign to contact us - your luxury travel advisors - to book your romantic trip in February! There is no shortage of romantic restaurants in Cabo either, & having dinner at El Farallon Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is a must. If you'd like us to book your destination wedding and/or honeymoon at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, these are the perks we can offer as your luxury travel advisors:
$150 resort credit
Free breakfast daily
Room upgrade & extended check-in/out whenever possible (every room at this resort includes a private plunge pool!)
While there may be a chance for rain during any of the winter months in Cabo, your vacation won’t be completely washed out, so don’t worry. If you do have any cloudy days, you’ll be lucky to experience amazing Cabo sunrises & sunsets thanks to the clouds! And as winter comes to an end, the days continue to get longer, which means even more sunlight to enjoy during the day!
MARCH
March = Spring Break Season! If you’re looking to party, then you should travel to Los Cabos in March; you will not be disappointed. The weather is perfect, day & night, & everywhere you go will be hoppin'! The spring can get quite windy in Cabo, which is super refreshing while enjoying the hot sunny days. You still have a chance to see whales in March, too!
APRIL
April is an amazing month to visit Los Cabos, but you may encounter some spring breakers, or more families with children, depending on when Easter takes place. April marks the last month of whale season, so if you’re in Cabo in December, January, February, March, or April, make sure you partake in a sunset sail or private boat/yacht charter. You can read about some of our favorite destination wedding week excursions & events here.
These first few months of the year are some of the busiest in Los Cabos, which makes them great for a joint bachelor & bachelorette party, honeymoon, or anniversary trip. The amazing weather makes the first half of the year busy season for destination weddings, too. Be sure to make your plans for dinners, excursions, etc. as far in advance as possible during Cabo's ideal vacation months! As luxury travel advisors, this is something we can help you with, too!
MAY
May is another beautiful month in Los Cabos & marks the start of the off-season. Are you catching on that almost every month in Cabo is amazing?!? In May, spring break season has ended & the crowds are more calm heading into the summer months. Sunny days are plentiful in May, making it one of the best times to visit Los Cabos, Mexico.
JUNE
June is our FAVORITE month to visit Cabo San Lucas, Mexico!!! Maybe we’re partial since we got married in Cabo in June, & had our joint bachelor/bachelorette party & honeymoon in June, but all of our family & friends loved Cabo in June, too! Every June we’ve spent in Cabo, the weather has been perfecto! Temperatures are in the high 80s during the day & lows in the 70s at night. Since it’s a desert climate, it’s not humid in June, & days are filled with nothing but sunshine! June is considered an off-season month in Cabo, so prices can be slightly more affordable for resorts & flights. June also has the longest day of the year, so the amount of Cabo sun you get in June is the best!!!
JULY
Recently, we stayed in Cabo the entire month of July which was amazing. The weather during the first half of the month was nice (highs in the 80s & lows in the 70s), but the second half of the month continued to get hotter & more humid, day & night (highs in the 90s & lows in the 80s). There is a risk for rain in June & July since it’s hurricane season in the summer, but we’ve never experienced rain during these months! Cabo knows how to celebrate holidays for all of its American tourists, too. Therefore, if you want to spend the 4th of July in Cabo, you can experience amazing fireworks on Médano Beach, similar to New Year's Eve! July is another popular month for destination weddings, honeymoons, anniversary trips, & bachelor/bachelorette parties, so if you love the warm weather, you will love traveling to Cabo in July!
AUGUST
We spent the first week of August in Cabo recently & it’s crazy how each day got increasingly more hot & humid, & it rained a little bit every day. You can expect temperatures in the 90s-100s during the day & 80s at night. In August, it starts to become too hot & humid to be outside for extended periods of time, & being outside is one of the best parts about being in Cabo! Also, hurricane season can really start to pick up in August, so we don’t recommend traveling to Cabo in August, even though prices for flights & resorts can be enticing.
SEPTEMBER
As much as we wish we could be in Cabo in September (because both of our birthdays fall in September), this is the one month we definitely do not recommend. While you may get better rates for a destination wedding, honeymoon, anniversary trip, or bachelor/bachelorette party in September, we don’t think it’s worth the risk of bad weather (especially if trying to plan a wedding outside). September in Cabo is extremely hot & humid, and the risk for hurricanes is the highest. September is considered Cabo’s “rainy” month, & while it doesn’t rain the entire month of September, it does rain more this month than others. Since there are so many other sunny months in Cabo, we suggest skipping a trip to Cabo in September since you’ll have better weather every other month of the year! Also a note about when it rains in Cabo, the streets flood because they don’t have drains in the streets like they do in America, so it is quite the sight to see (photo below).
OCTOBER
We’ve been to Cabo in October a few times, & going later in the month is better (less humid) than in the beginning of the month. October is at the tail end of the rainy season in Cabo, so don’t be surprised if you get a little bit of rain while on vacation. You shouldn’t expect a complete wash out though! It will also be more humid than you would usually expect in a desert climate if Cabo got a lot of rain in September. October is the last month of Cabo’s off-season, which is May-October, making it a popular month for more affordable travel. In October, Cabo also hosts one of the biggest fishing tournaments called Bisbee’s. So if you like to fish, then we highly recommend visiting Cabo in October for some of the best fishing ever! It is amazing to watch the shotgun start of the boats & they come back to weigh their fish in the marina which is a sight to see! Lastly, Día de Los Muertos, which falls around Halloween, is a meaningful holiday to honor our loved ones who have passed & you can see beautifully decorated ofrendas at all the tourist destinations!
NOVEMBER
November welcomes the start of Cabo’s busy season which is November-April. November is another beautiful month in Los Cabos, but almost all of them are! At the beginning of the month, Cabo hosts a PGA tournament. Cabo is known for its amazing golf courses (Quivira is our favorite). If you need help booking your tee time, let us know! Thanksgiving in Cabo is another popular holiday that people travel to Los Cabos for. All of the resorts & restaurants host Thanksgiving dinner & festivities! November is a popular month for destination weddings in Cabo because the weather is in the 80s during the day & 60s-70s at night which is perfect. Planning your wedding, honeymoon, anniversary trip, or bachelor/bachelorette party in November will not disappoint, so reach out to us here for help planning your special occasions!
DECEMBER
A December to remember is one spent in Los Cabos. December marks the start of whale season, but also marks the most expensive month to travel to Los Cabos for both flights & resort stays. This is because many people head south of the border to celebrate Christmas & New Year’s. Christmas is a popular holiday that is celebrated in Mexico, starting with posadas on December 16th. All of the resorts in Los Cabos go all out with their Christmas decorations which are amazing to see!
New Year’s Eve is a great time to stay in resorts along Medano Beach, since they shoot fireworks off from the beach & it is amazing! If you aren’t staying on Medano Beach for New Year’s Eve, make sure you book a NYE cruise to watch the fireworks from the water. You can also head to the clubs for some festive NYE partying!
We can’t complain about the weather in December, either. One thing to note however is that Los Cabos has the same winter months as America, so there are limited hours of sunlight during the day, but temperatures are in the high 70s. December has some of the coolest evenings you will experience in Cabo, but lows in the 50s-60s really aren’t that cold! If you are looking to escape winter for your destination wedding, honeymoon, anniversary trip, or bachelor/bachelorette party, then heading to Cabo in December will be perfect for you & we'd honored to be your luxury travel advisors!
